ABOUT ADVOCACY

My Story

I've loved every minute of the journey

What I Do

Special education advocacy is about having the ability to effectively negotiate and navigate the complex system of laws and regulations. I am passionate about assisting parents create a vision for their child and clearly and consistently communicating that vision to the district to cooperatively develop a program for a child.

I have been helping parents navigate the school system by understanding their child’s IEP & 504 Plan since 2013. A young family member was diagnosed with a development delay and speech impairment, and I was able to guide the parents through the process of child find, evaluation, eligibility, service determination and placement while working proactively and productively with the district in the child's best interest.

Using knowledge of district policies and resources, the federal IDEA law, Massachusetts law and regulations, I provide skilled advocacy services on behalf of children with a wide range of abilities.

As a former special educator in the public schools, I have a unique understanding of working with districts to best support and educate exceptional children. I completed the Boston Public Schools Pathways to Special Education program in 2013, and have been working in various roles as a special education teacher since then. I am qualified to administer and interpret academic assessments, make recommendations for specialized instruction and assess curriculum and programming.

My formal education includes earning a BA in English from UMASS Boston, a Master's in Education from UMASS Boston, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Reading Instruction from American International College, and a Post-Master's Certificate in Educational Leadership specializing in Special Education Administration from Curry College.

I look forward to working with you, your family, and your district to develop a program that supports your child on the way to the rest of their life!
